No shelter, no stove, no waterproof gear (besides my umbrella), and little time and money. Well that's how it started out anyway! 2,700 miles walking the length of California, Oregon, and Washington in 118 consecutive days. No days off, 3 days hiking less than 10 miles. 13 days hiking 30 miles or more. Yup I went ultralight, but then I picked up gear along the way. By the time I made it to Washington day hikers were telling me that I was carrying too much gear to be a PCT thru hiker. But hey, walking in snow at elevation in central California gave me the strength to carry more gear thru the flat and easy sections of Oregon. Then it got cooler and rainy in Washington, so I just kept the gear. The PCT is an absolutely wonderful trail, and I had a blast walking thru it. Yup, walking. My plan was to go on a walking journey. I wasn't out to go camping or out to hang out in towns- I was out to walk, eat, sleep, eat, and walk some more. It was a very special trip for me. It healed my soul.
