Still in its infancy, the GET will hopefully one day be an alternative trail for the Appalachian Trail. The idea is to have a more remote, less populated, and less used trail running over a thousand miles along the Appalachians. This trail is being put together by connecting many existing trails and by building some new trails. The final goal right now is to have a pathway from the Finger Lakes of NY about 1800 miles south to Alabama. A few of the existing trails along this pathway include: Crystal Hills Trail, Mid State Trail, Tuscarora Trail, and the Allegheny Trail.
